Erik Johnson

Erik Johnson joined Markel in May 2024 as a Consultant in the International Office of the Chief Underwriting Officer.

He is responsible for working across Markel International for setting standards, managing oversight, and supporting underwriting teams to write profitable business safely.

Erik started his career with Marsh Canada and moved to London in 2004. He has over 20 years of progressively senior roles in strategy, portfolio underwriting, underwriting management, and M&A, working for firms including Deloitte and Lloyd’s.

He is a founding Board member of Inclusion@Lloyd’s and sits on the Advisory Board of the Haskayne School of Business’ Risk Management & Insurance degree programme.

Erik started his career as a professional ballet dancer, pivoting to insurance after an injury. He lives in London with his partner Jonas and his two Burmese cats.

Erik’s favourite topic, other than his cats, is Canadian politics.
